In the words of Zolita Sverdlove:

"I use Landscape as a metaphor to express a mood.

I always travel with a sketch pad or camera. I take numerous notes of the phenomena that interest me. Out of these, I build a painting.

Clouds have been one of the main motifs for me.

Many of my paintings deal with the mountains.

One of the themes in Northern California that I was very involved with, is the expanse you see from Berkeley of the Golden Gate, San Francisco Bay and Mt. Tamalpais.

That changing light over the water continues to interest me."

Zolita Sverdlove (1936-2009) lived in the Bay Area from 1957 to 1965 and frequently went back there after moving away. She painted the scenes she loved: the buildings of San Francisco with the bay in the background, the view from Berkeley, Mount Tamalpais, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Fishermans' Wharf.
